GLASGOW, Ky. — The Barren County Family YMCA will reopen Thursday morning with limited access as cleanup and restoration work continues following a recent fire.

The facility is scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8.

Several areas will remain closed while crews complete specialized cleaning and restoration. Those areas include:

  • Cardio Room
  • Sauna
  • Big Gymnasium
  • Small Gymnasium and Maze Area
  • Meeting Room
  • Child Watch
  • Administrative Offices

The YMCA said the closed areas were affected by smoke, soot and residue from the fire. Some areas also sustained water damage from the sprinkler system and firefighting response.

Restoration crews are cleaning surfaces, equipment, HVAC-related areas and other affected materials.

Programming to resume

Most regular YMCA programming will resume Thursday.

Land and aquatic fitness classes will return to their normal schedules. Childcare and afterschool care will also operate as usual, while senior meals will continue as scheduled.

The regular Child Watch area will remain closed, but temporary Child Watch will be offered in the childcare wing during normal Child Watch hours.

The temporary service will be available for children ages 3 and older who are fully potty trained. The YMCA said it cannot provide Child Watch for children under age 3 because the childcare classrooms are not equipped for younger children during this temporary arrangement.

The YMCA is asking members not to enter any closed or restricted areas while restoration crews continue their work.

The organization said it will provide additional updates as more areas are cleared to reopen.
