GLASGOW, Ky. — A local book sale will help put free books in the hands of preschool children across Barren County after the community came together to support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

The Friends of the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library held its After-Inventory BOGO Kids Book Sale, raising $465.43 through book sales and donations.

The sale included about 1,100 books that will go home with children.

Organizers said $274.85 was raised through book sales, while another $190.58 came through donations.

The proceeds will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides free books to preschool children in Barren County.

The Friends had been asked to raise $1,500 this year to support the program.

After learning about the fundraiser, an anonymous community member offered to donate the remaining amount needed to reach the $1,500 goal.

Organizers thanked the volunteers who helped prepare for and work at the sale, as well as community members who shopped and helped spread the word.

The Friends’ next book sale will be its annual fall sale, scheduled for Oct. 15 through Oct. 19 at the library.

The bottom line

The After-Inventory BOGO Kids Book Sale raised $465.43, with an anonymous donor providing the remaining funds needed to reach the $1,500 goal for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. About 1,100 books were purchased during the sale and will make their way into the hands of children.
