GLASGOW, Ky. — A Cumberland County man was arrested in Glasgow last month after police said he drove under the influence and crashed, less than a year after he survived a fatal crash that killed three teenagers.

Caden French, 19, was one of six passengers in a car driven by Asa Howard when it crashed along Veterans Outer Loop on Oct. 17, 2025. Three teenagers died in that crash, and police alleged Howard had been drinking and driving.

Less than a year later, on Sept. 26, Glasgow police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Grandview Avenue between Commercial Avenue and Sorenson Avenue. The crash happened shortly after 6 a.m.

French was arrested following the Sept. 26 crash and faces multiple charges stemming from that incident.

Caden French, 19, appears in a Barren County Detention Center mugshot.

Three people were in the vehicle, including one person who was receiving medical treatment when officers arrived, according to police. Another passenger told officers the group had been drinking and that the other passenger had been driving.

Police identified French as the driver.

According to an arrest citation, officers said French had red, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, difficulty walking and trouble maintaining his focus.

French showed all but one clue of intoxication during three field sobriety tests, officers said. A later breath test recorded his blood alcohol concentration at 0.217.

French was 18 at the time of the Sept. 26 crash, making the reported BAC more than 10 times Kentucky’s 0.02 legal limit for drivers under 21.

The other two people in the vehicle were minors, police said. French told officers he had consumed alcohol that someone over 21 had purchased for him at his request.

French pleaded not guilty Sept. 28 to the charges stemming from the Sept. 26 crash and was given a $5,000 bond. Court records show he was transferred to a Hopkinsville-area recovery substance abuse program.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 12.

He remains charged in connection with the Sept. 26 crash with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, first offense; possession of an open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle; two counts of third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor; and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.

Glasgow Police Department declined to comment Tuesday on the investigation, including whether additional charges could be filed in connection with the Sept. 26 crash.
