GLASGOW — The Disabled American Veterans and DAV Auxiliary will host a public American flag retirement ceremony Saturday, July 18, giving community members an opportunity to properly retire worn and unserviceable U.S. flags.

The ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. at 1770 Cleveland Ave. in Glasgow.

Residents are encouraged to bring faded, torn or otherwise unserviceable American flags to be retired with dignity in accordance with longstanding traditions for disposing of the U.S. flag.

The event is open to the public. Complimentary coffee, doughnuts, muffins, juice and water will be available for those attending.

According to the U.S. Flag Code, American flags that are no longer fit for display should be retired in a dignified manner, preferably by burning as part of a respectful ceremony.
