GLASGOW, Ky. — Barren County hunters will have an opportunity to participate in a youth and mentor dove hunt at Barren River Lake Wildlife Management Area this fall.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will accept applications beginning at 8 a.m. Aug. 3 for four mentor/youth dove quota hunts, including one at Barren River Lake WMA.

Applications will be accepted through 4:30 p.m. Aug. 21.

The mentor/youth hunt at Barren River Lake WMA is scheduled for Sept. 1, the opening day of dove season.

The hunt is designed for youth hunters and mentors, with applications selected through a random drawing based on availability. Drawing results will be posted by Aug. 26.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife will also host three other mentor/youth dove hunts at Clarks River National Wildlife Refuge in Marshall County, Mullins Wildlife Management Area in Kenton County and a private land cooperator field in Lincoln County.

Hunters selected for a quota hunt must print a copy of their selection page and carry it with them in the field. Each selected hunter may bring one guest, who must remain with the drawn hunter and also carry a copy of the selection page.

All hunters must check in before the hunt and check out afterward. Kentucky Fish and Wildlife said additional rules and application information are available through its Migratory Bird Hunting webpage.

Before hunting migratory birds, hunters must complete the Harvest Information Program survey and carry the required confirmation number on their hunting license or Kentucky Migratory Bird/Waterfowl Permit.

The 2026 dove season opens Sept. 1.
