Farmers RECC donates $7,000 to local hunger programs
The donated funds were provided to the schools’ Youth Resource Offices, which identify students who may benefit from the program.
GLASGOW, Ky. — Farmers Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation has donated $7,000 to programs supporting students experiencing food insecurity in Barren, Hart and Metcalfe counties.
The cooperative donated $2,000 each to the BackPack programs in Barren, Hart and Metcalfe counties. The programs, organized through Feeding America, provide students with nutritious, easy-to-prepare food to take home for weekends when they are not receiving meals at school.
The food is assembled at area food banks and distributed to students through school Youth Resource Offices.
According to Farmers RECC, approximately $120 provides enough food to feed one student on weekends for an entire school year.

Farmers RECC also donated $1,000 to Barren County Reads and Feeds, a program that provides food to local students experiencing food insecurity.
“We understand that hunger is a very real problem for some of our area students,” said Caralyne Pennington, director of member and public communications at Farmers RECC. “If we can help some of those students and the public with that problem, we feel it’s important to do what we can.”
Farmers RECC is a member-owned electric cooperative serving communities in south-central Kentucky.
