HORSE CAVE, Ky. — Kentucky State Police are awaiting the outcome of a prosecutorial review following a fatal shooting May 22 at Love’s Truck Stop in Horse Cave.

Katan Parker, public affairs officer for Kentucky State Police Post 3 in Bowling Green, said troopers were called to the truck stop off L&N Turnpike around 4 a.m. Friday.

According to a preliminary investigation, Scott Hinchey of Angleton, Texas, and Cortez Odem of Shubuta, Mississippi, were involved in an altercation before the shooting.

Investigators said Odem had apparently approached the semitruck Hinchey was driving. Odem allegedly grabbed Hinchey while the two were outside the truck before Hinchey shot him.

Odem was pronounced dead at the scene. Hinchey has not been charged or jailed in connection with the shooting.

Parker said investigators have turned the case over to a prosecutor for review to determine whether charges will be filed.
