GLASGOW, Ky. — Gas prices in West Central Kentucky increased seven cents over the past week, according to AAA East Central.

The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in the region is now $3.625, up from $3.557 a week ago.

The average was $2.866 at this time last year.

Among nearby markets, Bowling Green had an average price of $3.692 per gallon, while Elizabethtown was at $3.649, Louisville at $3.674, Owensboro at $3.555 and Paducah at $3.553.

Kentucky’s statewide average was listed at $3.70.

The national average was $4.08 per gallon, down one cent from the previous week. AAA said the national average has remained above $4 per gallon every day in August for the first time.

Crude oil prices also remained elevated, with West Texas Intermediate settling Wednesday at $82.23 per barrel.

AAA said continued volatility in the Strait of Hormuz has kept crude oil prices around the $85-per-barrel range.

The Energy Information Administration reported that U.S. gasoline demand increased last week from 8.68 million barrels per day to 9.04 million barrels per day, while total domestic gasoline supplies decreased from 209.4 million barrels to 206.8 million barrels.
