GLASGOW, Ky. — Bob R. Miller, a candidate for Glasgow mayor, is scheduled to return to Warren County court Oct. 29 for a pretrial conference on a fourth-degree assault charge stemming from a reported domestic disturbance in Bowling Green.

Miller was scheduled for an arraignment Thursday. He said he provided a statement allegedly recanting the victim’s account of the incident and that the case was continued to allow the statement to be verified.

Barrenside has been unable to independently verify the statement’s authenticity or confirm whether it prompted the continuance. Judge Brent Potter’s office did not respond to a phone call or email seeking comment Friday.

The Bowling Green Police Department arrested Miller on Sept. 16 and charged him with fourth-degree assault, domestic violence — minor injury, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to police records previously obtained by Barrenside, the incident involved an argument over a cell phone between Miller and his girlfriend’s son.

An officer responded to an alley along East Main Avenue on Sept. 16 after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance.

According to the arrest citation, Miller’s girlfriend’s son told police that Miller became upset during an argument over the phone, grabbed him while attempting to take the device and struck him in the face with an open hand, causing pain.

He also reported that Miller grabbed his arm. Officers documented two red marks on the son’s right arm, according to the citation.

Miller told police he became upset because he paid the phone bill for the device. He acknowledged attempting to take the phone but denied intentionally assaulting his girlfriend’s son, according to the citation.

Police: Cell phone dispute led to Bob Miller’s arrest
The Glasgow mayoral candidate was arrested Wednesday in Bowling Green and charged with fourth-degree assault.

Cathy Thomas, the son’s mother and Miller’s partner, described the incident in a statement released after the arrest as a “silly altercation” and an “overreaction.”

She said no one was injured and asked for privacy for both families.

Miller was booked into Warren County Regional Jail and released later that evening on a $2,500 unsecured bond, according to jail records.

Miller is scheduled for a pretrial conference Oct. 29. He is challenging incumbent Mayor Henry Royse in the Nov. 3 election.

The charge remains pending. Miller is presumed innocent.
