GLASGOW, Ky. — Friday marks Juneteenth, a federal holiday recognizing the end of slavery in the United States.

Two local celebrations are planned. One will be held at the Barren County Family YMCA beginning at 11 a.m. The other, a longer community event hosted by the Boys and Girls Club of Glasgow-Barren County, will take place at Twyman Park.

According to event information, both gatherings will feature speakers.

The YMCA event will include multiple speakers and encourages community members to attend with friends and family. Refreshments will be provided.

The Boys and Girls Club event will feature guest speaker H. Walker, along with special appearances by FlexRL, Mr. Jaylin, Kaios, Faith Curry and KSwagg. The celebration will also include live music from DJ Reezy and food, including free hamburgers and hot dogs while supplies last.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
