GLASGOW, Ky. — Ask a local where to find pumpkins in Glasgow, and you may get the same answer: Hillcrest Street.

Except no one seems to know much more than that.

Whose pumpkins are they? No one knows. Who brings them to town? No one seems to know that, either. And who trusts people to pay on the honor system?

That’s part of the mystery. He goes by one name: the Pumpkin Man.

Every autumn, a yard along Hillcrest Street fills with pumpkins and gourds of all shapes and sizes. Buyers pull into the side driveway, pick out their favorites and leave their money in a locked box.

No cashier. No card reader. Just pumpkins, prices and an honor system.

A large wooden cutout, painted orange with a white stem, marks the spot.

The sign is simply signed “Pumpkin Man,” and somehow, every fall, they’re back.

The pumpkins and gourds range from 50 cents to $2.

The selection is located at 101 Hillcrest Dr. in Glasgow.

Who the Pumpkin Man is, and why he keeps doing it, remains part of the mystery.
