GULF SHORES, Ala. — The SOKY Lady Soldiers finished their 8U coach-pitch season on a high note, winning the USSSA Gulf Coast Nationals championship after an undefeated run through bracket play.

The team, made up of 11 players from across South Central Kentucky and based in Glasgow, entered the tournament ranked No. 1 in the state of Kentucky and competed against teams from multiple states during the July 5-11 event.

The Lady Soldiers opened pool play with a 9-9 tie against the Saline County Slammers from Arkansas before defeating Tennessee Static 8-0.

In bracket play, the team continued its winning streak, defeating Lynchburg Lightning from Tennessee 9-3, Speed from Alabama 12-8 and Oklahoma Elite 13-8.

The Lady Soldiers then advanced to the semifinals, where they defeated the Gulf Coast Ballers from Alabama 11-10 to earn a spot in the championship game.

In a rematch against the Gulf Coast Ballers, the Lady Soldiers secured the title with a walk-off 15-14 victory.

The championship marked the team’s final 8U coach-pitch tournament.

The players will transition to live-arm competition as they move into the 9U division beginning in August, according to Coach Candace Dennison.
