GLASGOW, Ky. — Barren County is under a Heat Advisory beginning Tuesday as temperatures are expected to climb into the 90s across the region.

The National Weather Service in Louisville issued the advisory Monday morning for Barren County and several surrounding counties. It will be in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday through 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Heat index values could reach 105 degrees during the advisory period, with hot temperatures and high humidity creating a risk for heat-related illness.

The change comes after a cooler start to the week. The National Weather Service expects mostly sunny and dry conditions Monday, with temperatures in the 80s.

By Tuesday, temperatures are expected to return to the 90s. Higher humidity will push the heat index into the low 100s, particularly across western portions of the Louisville weather service area.

The heat is expected to continue into Thursday before chances for showers and thunderstorms increase toward the end of the week.

The National Weather Service advises residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning when possible, limit time in the sun and check on relatives and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to the heat.

The bottom line

Barren County will see a return to summer-like heat this week. A Heat Advisory is in effect Tuesday and Wednesday, with heat index values potentially reaching 105 degrees.
