BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Kentucky State Police Post 3 in Bowling Green is warning the public about an ongoing scam involving bitcoin kiosks.

According to KSP, scammers are contacting victims by phone and telling them they have fines that need to be resolved.

Victims are then instructed to withdraw cash and take it to a bitcoin kiosk located at 840 Morgantown Road. The scammers direct victims to deposit the money into the machine and transfer the funds using cryptocurrency.

KSP said once the funds are sent, they are difficult, if not impossible, to recover.

“If you get this call, hang up the phone immediately,” KSP said in the release. “DO NOT send the funds.”

KSP Post 3 issued the warning on Aug. 6.
