OWENSBORO, Ky. — A woman was killed after her estranged husband allegedly fled with her during a shooting at a Daviess County home Wednesday night, according to Kentucky State Police.

KSP said its Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the incident, which began around 10:48 p.m. CDT Sept. 2 at a residence on New Cut Road in Ohio County.

The preliminary investigation indicates Ohio County sheriff’s deputies had earlier responded to the home for a welfare check involving a possible domestic violence threat.

Deputies made contact with Tracy Pearce, 37, at her mother’s residence in Whitesville. Pearce told deputies she was OK and did not anticipate any problems with her estranged husband, according to KSP.

Later that day, Pearce’s estranged husband, Jonathon Severs, 30, of Owensboro, arrived at the residence. KSP said Severs shot a person inside the home before placing Pearce in his vehicle and fleeing the scene.

A short time later, Daviess County sheriff’s deputies located Severs in the New Cut Road area, leading to a vehicle pursuit.

Near the 9700 block of Morgantown Road, Severs’ vehicle collided head-on with a Daviess County patrol vehicle.

Gunfire was exchanged between Severs and deputies following the crash. Severs was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene.

Pearce was found dead inside the vehicle.

The person who was shot inside the New Cut Road residence was flown to University of Louisville Hospital and remains in critical condition, according to KSP.

The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting at the residence, while KSP is handling the officer-involved shooting investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing. KSP said it will not release additional specific details while investigators interview witnesses and gather evidence.
