BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Kentucky State Police will increase traffic enforcement in the area this weekend as part of a six-state effort targeting people who are prohibited from possessing firearms.

KSP Post 3 will participate in the 6-State Trooper Project from Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 17-20, according to the agency.

The operation includes state police agencies from Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

This month’s effort is focused on finding firearms carried illegally by people with felony convictions. Troopers will use traffic stops and criminal patrols to identify suspected violations of state and federal firearm laws, KSP said.

The initiative is one of several enforcement periods conducted through the 6-State Trooper Project, with each period focusing on a different traffic or public safety concern.

“By joining forces across state lines, we are able to work together to ensure our communities are safe,” said Capt. Tim Adams, commander of KSP Post 3. “It is all about protecting families and communities throughout the commonwealth and beyond.”

KSP said residents who see suspicious or illegal activity should contact their local KSP post. Anyone experiencing an emergency should call 911.

The bottom line

KSP Post 3 will participate in a six-state enforcement effort Sept. 17-20 focused on identifying firearms illegally possessed by people with felony convictions.

The operation will involve traffic enforcement and criminal patrols across the participating states.
