GLASGOW, Ky. — A multi-day heat event is expected to bring dangerous conditions to the area this week, with the chance of a major heat risk reaching more than 70% by Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The major heat risk designation means heat indices are likely to exceed 100 degrees. People without effective cooling or adequate hydration could be susceptible to heat-related illness.

The prolonged heat will make it especially important for residents to take precautions, including drinking plenty of fluids and limiting time outdoors during the hottest parts of the day.

People who work or exercise outside, older adults, young children and those without access to air conditioning may be particularly vulnerable.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, seek air-conditioned spaces when needed and take frequent breaks from the heat.
