GLASGOW, Ky. — The end of an era is coming Monday as moviegoers watch the final films at Marquee Cinemas in Glasgow.

After serving moviegoers in Glasgow and the surrounding region for nearly three decades, the theater is closing its doors for a months-long renovation following the recent acquisition by a local development group and the Crowne Pointe Theatre ownership team.

A new chapter begins this week as Crowne Pointe Theatre Glasgow officially takes over the facility and renovation work gets underway. Marquee Cinemas has been operated by West Virginia-based Highland Cinemas for years.

The new ownership group thanked Marquee Cinemas for its years of service and encouraged local moviegoers to attend a final showing as a way of showing their appreciation.

“We sincerely thank Marquee for serving moviegoers throughout Glasgow and our surrounding region for so many years,” said Larry Glass, a local businessman involved in the acquisition.

When the theater reopens, moviegoers can expect a significantly different experience.

Plans call for luxury reclining seats, reserved online ticketing, self-service ticket kiosks, upgraded digital projection and sound systems, self-service concession stations and expanded food and beverage options.

The lobby is also expected to receive an overhaul, along with updates to the building’s exterior, parking areas and other customer amenities.

The project is expected to bring a major overhaul to the theater, with several renderings currently being considered as plans are finalized.

“We are grateful for everything that brought us to this moment and incredibly excited about what lies ahead for Glasgow and our entire region,” Glass said.
