GLASGOW, Ky. — The Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library will not reopen Sept. 1 as previously planned, as staff continue working to complete a major inventory and reshelving project.

The library announced Aug. 28 that it will instead reopen Sept. 8, following the Labor Day holiday.

Staff have been working overtime and part-time employees have maxed out their hours, but the inventory process is taking longer than expected.

The project includes repairing books, replacing labels and covers, reshelving materials, discarding items and replacing some materials.

Library officials said the work will leave the shelves clean and the collections in good condition, with room for future growth.

The Friends of the Library will also have additional materials available for its October book sale.

The library’s previously planned adult classes will still take place during the week of Sept. 1. Those include:

• Chair Yoga: Noon Thursday
• Watercolor Painting: 6 p.m. Thursday
• Red Ink Writers: 6 p.m. Thursday in the Internet Cafe

Doors will open 30 minutes before each class. Registration for Chair Yoga and Watercolor Painting is available through the library's website.

Library officials apologized for the delay and thanked the community for its patience and understanding.
