BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The Medical Center at Bowling Green is now offering Pluvicto, a treatment for some patients with metastatic prostate cancer.

The hospital said it is the first hospital in the region and the seventh in Kentucky to offer the treatment.

Pluvicto is a radiopharmaceutical therapy used for certain patients with advanced prostate cancer who have previously been treated with androgen receptor pathway inhibition.

The treatment targets prostate cancer cells that express prostate-specific membrane antigen, or PSMA, and delivers radiation to those cells while limiting radiation exposure to surrounding tissue.

“When prostate cancer spreads, patients may face fewer treatment options,” said Dr. Diego Cabrera, an oncologist and hematologist with Med Center Health. “Pluvicto has been one of the best new treatments available for prostate cancer. Offering Pluvicto locally gives eligible patients access to an important treatment while allowing them to remain closer to their families and support systems.”

Metastatic prostate cancer occurs when cancer spreads beyond the prostate, including to the bones or lymph nodes.

Laura Ortiz, director of nuclear medicine at The Medical Center at Bowling Green, said some patients previously traveled several hours to receive radioligand therapy.

“Before we began Pluvicto, patients were traveling hours for radioligand therapy,” Ortiz said. “Providing this treatment in Bowling Green reduces that burden and represents another step forward in specialized cancer care for our region.”

Pluvicto is available through The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
