HORSE CAVE, Ky. — A new electric vehicle fast-charging station is now open at the Love’s Travel Stop in Horse Cave.

The station is located at 4000 L and N Turnpike Road, near Interstate 65’s Exit 58.

The site has four charging ports, each capable of charging at up to 400 kilowatts.

Love’s received $725,000 in federal funding for the project through Kentucky’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program.

The program is administered by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and is intended to expand the number of publicly available fast-charging stations along Kentucky’s interstates and parkways.

The Horse Cave location is one of 18 fast-charging stations currently open in Kentucky, with 10 additional sites under construction, according to the Transportation Cabinet.

Stations funded through the program must have at least four charging ports, be available to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and be compatible with most electric vehicles.

Developers are required to fund at least 20% of construction and operating costs and maintain the stations for at least five years.

The Transportation Cabinet said additional charging-site awards are expected.
