GLASGOW, Ky. — A new playroom opened Friday at Community Partners for Recovery, giving children a safe place to play while their parents receive addiction recovery services.

The Healing Hearts Playroom is a welcoming space with colorful walls, child-sized furniture and plenty of toys. It was created for children who come with their parents while they attend meetings, classes or recovery coaching at CPR.

The room was funded through a grant from the Glasgow-Barren County Rotary Club, with proceeds from the club’s annual auction helping provide the funding.

“We are honored to help open a space that will provide comfort to children, support to parents, and hope to families as it works for a healthier future,” said Shelby Evans, a Rotary Club representative.

A.K. Murrey and Libby Short founded CPR with a goal of helping bridge the gap between addiction and recovery through services such as support groups, classes and recovery coaching.

The nonprofit operates a recovery community center along Ensminger Drive.

Short said the playroom fills a need for families who use CPR’s services.

“This was something that we needed, and being a newer nonprofit, you don’t always have those funds to do those things,” Short said. “We have several kids that come here while parents are in meetings or classes or receiving recovery coaching.”

Short said having a dedicated space for children will help parents focus on their own recovery without worrying about where their children can safely stay.

“It allows them to focus on their recovery, their healing, just getting well, so that they can be fully present for their children,” Short said.

She said the playroom can help remove one more barrier for parents seeking help.

“This is a day of hope, and it’s hope for everyone who is affected by addiction,” said CheyAnne Fant, chairperson of Barren Inc.

The room was unveiled during a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by Barren Inc. and the Cave City Chamber of Commerce.
