LUCAS, Ky. — An 18-year-old Bowling Green man drowned Wednesday after the vehicle he was driving went off the end of a boat ramp and into Barren River Lake, according to Kentucky State Police.

Jose Castillo was driving a black 2005 Subaru Impreza north on State Park Road around midnight when the vehicle drove off the end of the road at 1149 State Park Road, KSP said.

The roadway ends at a boat ramp into Barren River Lake.

Castillo and a juvenile passenger were able to escape the vehicle through the windows, according to KSP. The juvenile was able to swim to safety, but Castillo was unable to do so and drowned.

KSP Post 3 Detective Bo Hubbard is leading the ongoing investigation.
