GLASGOW, Ky. — Teachers and school administrators in the Tennessee Valley Authority service area, including portions of south-central Kentucky, can now apply for grants of up to $5,000 to support science, technology, engineering and mathematics projects.

Applications for the TVA STEM Classroom Grant Program are being accepted through Sept. 15.

The program will provide a total of $1.5 million in funding through a partnership between TVA and Bicentennial Volunteers Inc., a TVA retiree organization.

Eligible applicants include teachers and school administrators at public and private K-12 schools served by a local power company that receives electricity from TVA.

Grant funding can be used to support hands-on STEM learning projects, with preference given to proposals focused on energy, environmental stewardship, economic and career development, and community problem-solving.

Last year, the program received 528 applications, with 339 projects selected for funding.

Since the program launched in 2018, TVA and Bicentennial Volunteers Inc. have awarded $9.5 million for STEM education projects, supporting more than 845,000 students across the Tennessee Valley region.

Applications are available through the TVA STEM Awards website and must be submitted by Sept. 15.
