GLASGOW, Ky. — Barren County’s burn ban was lifted Monday, Nov. 2, but seasonal restrictions on outdoor burning remain in effect through Dec. 15.

Glasgow-Barren County Emergency Management announced the decision Monday, reminding residents that the lifting of the local ban does not mean all outdoor burning is permitted.

Kentucky’s fall forest fire hazard season runs Oct. 1 through Dec. 15. During that period, outdoor burning is prohibited between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland.

Burning is permitted after 6 p.m. when conditions allow. Fires must be attended at all times and completely extinguished before being left unattended.

Emergency management officials also cautioned residents that seasonal restrictions do not override any local burn bans or other applicable regulations.

Residents are encouraged to use caution, particularly during dry or windy conditions, and follow the Kentucky Division of Forestry’s restrictions and list of authorized materials that may be burned.

Officials said the restrictions are intended to help protect homes, property, first responders and natural resources by reducing the risk of wildfires.
