SMITHS GROVE, Ky. — Two Smiths Grove residents have been arrested in connection with the alleged abuse of a two-month-old infant, according to the Kentucky State Police.

Kentucky State Police Post 3 in Bowling Green said it received a call April 23 from the Indiana State Police regarding an infant who had been dropped off at a family member’s home in Salem, Indiana, by the child’s parents.

Officials said the family member immediately transported the infant to St. Vincent Hospital due to the child’s condition. The infant was later airlifted to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville because of the severity of the injuries.

Following a joint investigation between Kentucky and Indiana authorities, arrest warrants were obtained for Aurora Hamilton, 21, and Benjamin Reale, 18, both of Smiths Grove.

Both are charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child under 12 and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Hamilton and Reale are being held in the Jackson County Detention Center in Indiana and are awaiting extradition to Kentucky.

The investigation remains ongoing and is being led by Detective Aaron Hampton.
