GLASGOW, Ky. — Southern Living has named Glasgow one of eight small towns in the United States worth visiting this autumn, highlighting the community as a November getaway destination.

The magazine, which covers Southern culture, food and travel, featured towns it says offer small-town charm as an alternative to busier tourist destinations.

Glasgow-Barren County Tourism Executive Director MacLean Lessenberry said her office nominated Glasgow for the feature on November getaways.

Lessenberry said she understood that hundreds of nominations were submitted to Southern Living but did not know what criteria the magazine used to select the eight featured destinations.

Also included on the list were St. Michaels, Maryland; Paint Bank, Virginia; Concan, Texas; Jekyll Island, Georgia; Hot Springs, North Carolina; Woodville, Mississippi; and Edisto Island, South Carolina.

Southern Living described Glasgow as the “perfect place to get away before the holidays officially kick off,” pointing to its proximity to Louisville, Nashville and Mammoth Cave National Park.

The article also encourages visitors to explore nearly 20 local businesses expected to participate in the Glasgow Hometown Christmas Open House, scheduled for Nov. 5-7.
