GLASGOW, Ky. — The Hive Coffee & Bakehouse will host an open mic poetry night Saturday, Aug. 29, giving local writers and poetry fans an opportunity to share their work.

The event will be held at The Hive, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and poetry readings beginning at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be available.

Organizers are inviting both experienced writers and those who have never performed their work publicly to take the microphone.

“Whether you've been writing for years or this will be your first time sharing something out loud, you're welcome here,” The Hive said in its event announcement.

Original poetry is encouraged, including polished pieces, works in progress and writing being shared publicly for the first time.

Participants may also read poetry or other literary work that is in the public domain or work by another writer if they have permission from the author or copyright holder to perform it publicly.

Owner Savannah White said The Hive has received significant interest since promoting the poetry night on social media.

Reader spots are limited, and submissions are being accepted in advance to help organizers plan the lineup. Readings will be limited to five minutes, and those interested in reading must submit their selection by Monday, Aug. 24.

Submitting a piece does not guarantee a reading spot. The Hive will contact selected readers after submissions close with confirmation and additional details.

The event is open to anyone who wants to listen, whether or not they plan to take the mic.
