GLASGOW, Ky. — A Hollywood classic will return to the big screen this weekend at the Historic Plaza Theatre.

The Plaza Theatre will show the 1939 classic “The Wizard of Oz” on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 per seat.

The Plaza Theatre originally showed the film on Nov. 12 and 13, 1939, according to The Glasgow Republican, a former newspaper in Barren County.

The film follows Dorothy Gale as she is transported from Kansas to the magical land of Oz, where she meets the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion while searching for a way home.

An advertisement for “The Wizard of Oz” appeared in the Nov. 9, 1939, edition of The Glasgow Republican, giving local readers a look at the film during its original theatrical run.
