GLASGOW, Ky. — A Warren County man has been indicted on a first-degree attempted fetal homicide charge after police allege he replaced his pregnant girlfriend’s medication with misoprostol, a drug used to induce abortion.

Abdullah Mohmand, 27, of Bowling Green, was indicted Aug. 26. Kentucky State Police is investigating the case.

Mohmand’s girlfriend reported in late May that her medication had been replaced with an unknown medication, according to police. She told investigators she was pregnant with Mohmand’s child and that he had repeatedly pressured her to have an abortion, but she refused.

She also told police Mohmand said his family in Afghanistan would kill him if the couple had the baby.

The woman became suspicious after noticing that one of her medications looked different while taking it.

Mohmand denied knowing anything about the misoprostol and told police he and his girlfriend had agreed to have a baby together. When investigators showed him the medication bottle, he asked for an attorney and declined to answer further questions.

The FDA-approved labeling for misoprostol warns that the drug can cause abortion when taken during pregnancy. Misoprostol is also used with mifepristone in an FDA-approved regimen to terminate a pregnancy through 10 weeks gestation.

Police later obtained a search warrant for Mohmand’s Bright Street apartment. Investigators found an empty bottle of misoprostol, another bottle containing 12 misoprostol pills and three boxes of the medication.

Police also found instructions for using misoprostol in a yellow notebook. Instructions on two of the medication bottles referenced its use to induce an abortion, according to police.

Mohmand is scheduled for arraignment Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. Court records list Johnny Bell as his attorney.
