MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. — An 81-year-old woman was killed Monday morning after a pickup truck collided with a horse-drawn carriage on South Dixie Highway in Hart County, according to the Kentucky State Police.

KSP Post 3 said troopers were called to the 1600 block of South Dixie Highway at approximately 8:24 a.m. Monday for an injury collision.

A preliminary investigation indicates a horse and carriage operated by Melvin Miller, of Horse Cave, was traveling north on South Dixie Highway when a 2025 Ford F-250 driven by John McBride, 38, of Munfordville, collided with the rear of the carriage.

Sara Miller, 81, of Horse Cave, who was a passenger in the carriage, was transported by Hart County EMS to The Medical Center at Caverna, where she was pronounced dead.

Melvin Miller was airlifted to the University of Louisville for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash, according to a news release.

The investigation remains ongoing and is being led by KSP Detective Bo Hubbard.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, Hart County EMS and other KSP personnel.
