The rate is the same as last year but will generate more revenue because property values have increased.

GLASGOW, Ky. — Barren County Fiscal Court voted Tuesday to keep the county’s property tax rate at 12.2 cents per $100 of assessed value for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The rate is the same as last year and is higher than the county’s 12.0-cent compensating rate calculated by the state.

At 12.2 cents, the county is expected to collect about $3.90 million in property tax revenue, roughly $64,000 more than it would collect under the compensating rate.

That increase comes as the county’s taxable property base grew by about $176.8 million from 2025 to 2026.

County leaders have previously said the additional revenue will help cover rising costs, including jail expenses and other routine county expenditures.

The 12.2-cent rate is also 2.1 cents lower than the county’s 14.3-cent rate in 2015.

Because the rate is higher than the compensating rate, the county held a public hearing Aug. 21 before Tuesday’s vote.

The new rate applies to the 2026-27 fiscal year.
