BCEA breaks ground on third speculative building at South Cooper Industrial Park
The authority’s first two speculative buildings, located on Lots 1 and 7, are now occupied by Bluegrass Ingredients and Union Coating.
GLASGOW, Ky. — The Barren County Economic Authority broke ground Thursday on a new 60,000-square-foot industrial building at South Cooper Industrial Park.
The facility is being developed on about 15.32 acres at Site 2 in partnership with Scott, Murphy & Daniel. Construction is expected to begin immediately, with completion anticipated in early 2027.
The building is designed to give Barren County ready-to-use industrial space for companies looking to establish or expand operations without waiting for a facility to be built.
The building also will have the ability to expand to as much as 240,000 square feet, according to BCEA. It is designed to accommodate future manufacturing, distribution and logistics operations.
“Breaking ground on Speculative Building Number Three is another exciting milestone for Barren County,” said Maureen Carpenter, president and CEO of BCEA. “Projects like this demonstrate our commitment to investing in the future of our community and creating opportunities for long-term economic growth.”
Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said having market-ready industrial space can help the county compete for new business.
“Investing in infrastructure like this is an investment in Barren County’s future,” Byrd said. “Having market-ready industrial space allows us to compete for new opportunities and respond quickly when companies are looking to expand.”
Scott, Murphy & Daniel will oversee construction of the project. The company has previously partnered with BCEA on industrial development projects in South Central Kentucky.

Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse said the industrial park continues to contribute to the community’s economic growth.
“South Cooper Industrial Park continues to play an important role in the growth of our community,” Royse said. “We’re proud to celebrate another milestone that strengthens Glasgow’s economy and creates opportunities for businesses and future generations.”
The groundbreaking ceremony included BCEA investors and board members, elected officials, community partners and regional leaders.
