Beshear: T.J. Samson gets another $600,000 in FEMA funding
The latest funding comes months after T.J. Samson was awarded nearly $6.9 million in a previous round of FEMA reimbursements.
GLASGOW, Ky. — T.J. Samson Community Hospital is set to receive an additional $600,000 in federal reimbursement for expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gov. Andy Beshear announced Sept. 3 that Kentucky had secured an additional $18 million in FEMA disaster funds for 10 hospitals across the state, including T.J. Samson.
During a visit to Glasgow Tuesday, Beshear said T.J. Samson would receive another $600,000 from the additional funding.
The latest funding comes months after T.J. Samson was awarded nearly $6.9 million in a previous round of FEMA reimbursements.
In May, Beshear announced that T.J. Samson would receive $6,917,666.16 as part of more than $105 million in FEMA funding secured for six Kentucky hospitals and Kentucky Emergency Management.
That reimbursement covered eligible expenses and damages incurred from January 2020 through May 11, 2023, under FEMA’s Kentucky COVID-19 Pandemic Major Disaster declaration.
Eligible costs included hospital safety measures, patient care, supplies, personal protective equipment, medical support, contract labor, emergency protective measures and medications such as remdesivir.

The latest $18 million round includes T.J. Samson, AdventHealth Manchester, Appalachian Regional Healthcare, Baptist Health, Flaget Memorial Hospital, Norton Hospital, Pikeville Medical Center, Saint Joseph Hospital, the University of Kentucky and UofL Health.
With the latest funding, Kentucky hospitals have now been awarded more than $123 million in FEMA reimbursement through the two rounds announced this year.
The latest announcement did not provide a breakdown of the full $18 million among the hospitals. However, Beshear said during his Glasgow visit that T.J. Samson would receive $600,000.
T.J. Samson CEO Neil Thornbury said in May that the earlier reimbursement recognized the expenses hospitals faced during the pandemic and would support the hospital’s efforts to provide health care in rural communities.
The additional reimbursement is part of federal disaster assistance related to the COVID-19 pandemic, years after many of the expenses were incurred.
