Book sale to help fund free books for Barren County children
The library has been undergoing a major inventory and reshelving project that includes repairing books, replacing labels and covers, reshelving materials and removing items from the collection.
GLASGOW, Ky. — As the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library works through its major inventory project, some of the books being removed from the collection will soon be available for a good cause.
The Friends of the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library will hold a special book sale Sept. 12, with proceeds going toward Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Kentucky.
The sale will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the library lobby at 1530 S. Green St. in Glasgow.
Children’s books will normally sell for 50 cents each, but shoppers will be able to buy one and get one free during the one-day sale.
The sale will be cash only.

The Friends will have many of those discarded books available during the Sept. 12 sale.
Money raised will help support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program, which provides free books by mail to children in Barren County.
The Friends of the Library previously joined the library, Barren County, Glasgow Independent Schools, Barren County Fiscal Court and other partners in helping fund the cost of shipping the books to local children.
Those funds are matched by the United Way of Southern Kentucky and the Kentucky General Assembly.
The Friends are seeking to contribute another $1,500 toward the effort.
Community members can also make monetary donations to the Friends of the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library. Checks should be made payable to the Friends of the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library with “DPIL” in the notation line.
The Friends will hold its larger Fall Book Sale Oct. 15-19, with additional discarded library books expected to be available.
More information about the October sale will be released later.
