MOUNT VERNON, Ky. — A California woman was killed Monday after she got out of her vehicle on Interstate 75 in Rockcastle County to try to catch a pet that had escaped, according to Kentucky State Police.

Police said the crash happened near the 62-mile marker on I-75 northbound.

Troopers said Morabia Siddhi Suresh, 33, of Fremont, California, had been in a separate crash before she got out of her vehicle. Police said she then began chasing her pet, which had run away.

While she was on the road trying to get the animal back, she was hit by a 2026 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 25-year-old Caleb Valentine of London, Kentucky, according to the preliminary investigation.

She was taken to Rockcastle Regional Hospital, where she later died. The Rockcastle County Coroner’s Office pronounced her dead.

Police said drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been involved.

The crash is still being investigated by Kentucky State Police Detective Shane Bowling. Local emergency crews, including EMS, fire, sheriff’s deputies, and police, helped at the scene.
