Donald “Duck” Read, 61, Glasgow, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026 at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital. A native of Barren County, he was the son of Vola Bragg Read and the late Jimmy Read.
Affectionately known as “Duck,” Donald was a construction supervisor. He was also a people person who loved his close association with family and friends and making them laugh.
He enjoyed playing golf, playing card games, and riding motorcycles. Characterized as a “grill master,” he was a happy person who enjoyed having a good time and who loved to entertain.
Survivors include three children: Ashley Varyvoda and husband Anton, and Brittany Perry and husband Justin all of Bowling Green, and Chase Read and wife Kandice of Alvaton; five grandchildren: Will Saltsman, Alex Varyvoda, Carver Perry, Parks Perry, and Steller Perry; his mother Vola Read Smith of Scottsville; three brothers: Jeff Read of Glasgow, Todd Read of Hartsville, TN, and John Read (Debbie Pearce) of Maryland; several nieces and nephews along with a group of special friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and continue Monday morning at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Kosair for Kids.
