GLASGOW, Ky. — A fundraiser has been launched to help the family of a Barren County crash victim and a Glasgow man who was seriously injured in the wreck Wednesday.

Martin Hernandez, 40, was killed and Adrick Ward, 21, was injured in the two-vehicle crash on U.S. 31E, according to Kentucky State Police.

Ward was airlifted to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville following the crash. He is now expected to return home Thursday, according to Tia Roach, his family member.

Roach said Ward suffered a dislocated shoulder, 28 stitches in his arm, a hematoma in his stomach that has since stopped bleeding, as well as numerous scrapes and bruises.

Ward’s fiancé, Adriana Roach, organized the fundraiser through Spotfund. It has a $50,000 goal and is intended to help with Ward’s medical expenses and Hernandez’s funeral expenses and support for his family.

Roach said Ward was on his way to work when a truck crossed into his lane.

KSP previously reported a driver was driving north on U.S. 31E when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the centerline. His Chevrolet Silverado collided with Hernandez’s Pontiac G6.

The investigation remains ongoing, according to KSP.

Support for two families

Roach said Ward faces a lengthy recovery as he continues to heal from his injuries.

“Adrick's road to recovery is just beginning,” Roach wrote on the fundraiser page. “Although he’s stable now, the mountain of medical bills is daunting.”

The fundraiser also seeks to help Hernandez’s wife and twin daughters.

Hernandez’s family continues to mourn his death.

“He lit up every room he ever came in and always would make jokes with people and just make everyone so happy and welcomed,” Roach said.

Roach said the family is still working on funeral arrangements for Hernandez.

The fundraiser is intended to help ease the financial burden on his family while providing support for his daughters.

The fundraiser had raised $246 from five donors as of Thursday morning.

Roach also thanked the Glasgow community for its support following the crash.

“In the midst of this grief, our community in Glasgow, Kentucky, has rallied around us with incredible support and compassion,” she wrote.

The bottom line

Ward is expected to return home Thursday after suffering multiple injuries in Wednesday’s crash.

Meanwhile, Hernandez’s family is making funeral arrangements as both families face the financial impact of the crash.

A $50,000 fundraiser is seeking donations for Ward’s medical expenses and Hernandez’s funeral and family support.
