KSP: One killed, two injured in Barren County crash

GLASGOW, Ky. — One person was killed and two others were injured Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash along U.S. 31E in Barren County, according to Kentucky State Police.

The crash was reported at 6:52 a.m. in the 7400 block of U.S. 31E, just south of Haywood near the first bridge over Barren River Lake when traveling south.

KSP Post 3 in Bowling Green said it received a call from the Barren County Sheriff’s Office shortly after 7 a.m. about a possible fatal collision. Troopers responded to U.S. 31E and Old Scottsville Loop Third Road.

According to KSP’s preliminary investigation, Brock Lykins, 18, of Glasgow, was driving a black 2004 Chevrolet Silverado north on U.S. 31E when he lost control and crossed the centerline.

The Silverado collided with a red 2006 Pontiac G6 driven by Martin Hernandez, 40. Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in Hernandez’s vehicle, Adrick Ward, 21, of Glasgow, was airlifted to TriStar Skyline Medical Center for treatment.

Lykins was taken to T.J. Samson Community Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 31E were closed for several hours following the crash. The roadway reopened just before 11:30 a.m.

Authorities conducted a crash reconstruction at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.
