The event is intended for residential waste and materials. Business waste is not accepted.

Glasgow to host free household hazardous waste and shredding day

GLASGOW, Ky. — Glasgow residents will have an opportunity to dispose of household hazardous waste and securely shred personal documents for free next month.

The City of Glasgow will host a Household Hazardous Waste and Shredder Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 12, in the back parking lot of Beaver Creek Park.

The event is sponsored by the City of Glasgow through a Kentucky Pride Grant.

Residents may bring a variety of household hazardous materials for disposal, including:

  • Aerosols
  • Oil-based paints and solvents
  • Herbicides and pesticides
  • Mixed batteries
  • Fluorescent lamps
  • Sharps and medical waste
  • Mercury devices
  • TVs and other electronics
  • Propane cylinders
  • Cooking oils and fuels
  • Pool and photographic chemicals
  • Smoke detectors
  • Fire extinguishers

The event will not accept latex paint, explosives, flares, ammunition, weapons, radioactive or industrial waste, large appliances, tires, yard waste, business waste, 55-gallon drums or oversized cylinders.

The city also will also offer free residential document shredding.

Residents can bring paper documents, flyers, brochures, phone books and file folders without metal. Staples, paper clips and rubber bands do not need to be removed.

Plastic, cardboard, binders, hardcover books, CDs, DVDs, floppy disks and binder clips will not be accepted for shredding.
