GLASGOW, Ky. — The Barren County Historical Society will host a twilight walking tour Oct. 22, highlighting the history of West Washington Street.

The free program, titled “Echoes from the Porch,” will explore historic structures along one of Glasgow’s oldest streets. The tour is expected to last about an hour.

Facing demolition, a piece of Glasgow history finds two unlikely advocates
Josh and Terryn Francis have become prominent opponents of a proposed senior housing development that would involve demolishing the former Howard Clinic in Glasgow’s Southwest Residential Historic District.

Participants should gather at Vibratech, the former site of the Barren County Schools Central Office, before the tour begins at 5:30 p.m. The address is 202 W. Washington St.

The event is open to the public.

The tour comes amid renewed interest in West Washington Street and its surrounding history.

A Facebook page was recently started to showcase and discuss that history.

The Historical Society typically meets on the fourth Thursday of each month for programs focused on local and Kentucky history. Follow the organization on Facebook for updates on upcoming meetings and events.
