BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Roadwork across south-central Kentucky this week includes culvert replacement, paving, highway widening and bridge improvements, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s District 3 traffic report.

The report covers work scheduled Sept. 26 through Oct. 2 in 10 counties, including Barren County.

Here’s where motorists can expect construction and possible delays:

Barren County

  • U.S. 31-E (mile points 8 to 12): Daytime lane closures are expected as crews make drainage improvements between J. Carter Road and the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Expressway. Work also includes a new turn lane at Windy Hills Road and minor widening.
  • KY 90 (mile points 0.2 to 8.8): Most work is complete, the construction zone has been removed and normal traffic flow has resumed.

Butler County

  • I-165: Work continues on the bridges over the Green River at mile point 32.6. Southbound traffic has shifted onto the northbound side, and the speed limit is 55 mph. The project is expected to continue until later this year.

Logan County

  • KY 3519 (mile points 1.5 to 7.1): Paving is expected to continue. Lane closures and delays are possible.

Metcalfe County

  • U.S. 68: Work continues on a project to realign the highway between KY 729 in Green County and KY 745 in Metcalfe County. The project includes 1.2 miles of new roadway and a bridge over Caney Fork Creek. Motorists should use caution.

Monroe County

  • KY 163 (mile points 14.6 to 17.4): Finishing work on a resurfacing project is expected to continue. Motorists should use caution.

Todd County

  • U.S. 79: Widening continues between the Tennessee state line and mile marker 3. Motorists should expect some lane closures and construction vehicles entering the roadway.

Warren County

  • U.S. 31-W Bypass: Work continues to widen the road to five lanes between KY 234 and Park Street in northern Bowling Green. Traffic is narrowed to one lane in each direction, with a center turn lane in the construction zone. The project is expected to be completed in 2027.
  • KY 884: Widening between McCoy Place and Fieldstone Boulevard includes a three-lane roadway, a roundabout at Smallhouse Road, sidewalks on both sides and a new bridge over I-165. Delays are expected as work progresses.

The District 3 area also includes Allen, Edmonson, Simpson and other counties. The report did not list additional projects for those counties during this reporting period.

All work is subject to change. Motorists should use caution in work zones and allow extra time for travel.
