GLASGOW, Ky. — Community members, local businesses and Kentucky State Police personnel joined forces Thursday to make improvements to the Barren County home and property of fallen Trooper Hayden Phillips’ family.

Phillips, 28, was killed in the line of duty Sept. 28 during a traffic stop on Interstate 65 in Warren County.

Among the projects was landscaping around a flagpole Phillips had begun installing with his sons the day before his death, a project Kentucky State Police personnel had pledged to finish.

Monica Martin of Glasgow helped coordinate donations through her work at Lowe’s after learning they wanted to finish the landscaping project.

“The cadets wanted to do the landscaping for Hayden,” Martin said. “Post 3 and some cadets also did some tree removal and staining on the porches.”

At Phillips’ funeral, Kentucky State Police Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr. shared the story of Phillips working on the flagpole with his sons and said cadets planned to complete the project.

That commitment grew into a larger community effort, with local businesses contributing materials and supplies to improve the property.

Luxury Landscaping provided rock, Lee Brick and Block donated materials for a border, and Southern Touch Lawn and Landscapes supplied topsoil. Lowe’s donated the plants, Martin said.

Kentucky State Police cadets assisted Thursday, working alongside Post 3 personnel and others who contributed to the project.

The effort resulted in new landscaping around the home and a landscaped area bordered by rock around the flagpole. Fences were also installed and repaired at the family farm.

Before joining Kentucky State Police in 2023, Phillips served with the Glasgow Police Department.

Kentucky State Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.
