National Weather Service warns of damaging winds, tornado risk Tuesday
Strong storms expected to move through Barren County Tuesday afternoon and evening, with damaging winds the primary threat.
GLASGOW, Ky. — The National Weather Service is warning that strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to move through south-central Kentucky on Tuesday, bringing the potential for damaging winds, isolated tornadoes and flash flooding.
Forecasters said confidence is increasing that a line of storms will develop and move across the region Tuesday afternoon into the evening. Isolated to scattered severe storms could also form ahead of the main line.
The primary threat is damaging straight-line winds, though tornadoes are also possible. Flash flooding could develop in areas that receive heavy rainfall.
According to the National Weather Service’s latest briefing packet issued Monday morning, Barren County is included in a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather Tuesday, indicating numerous severe storms are possible.
Forecasters expect storms to arrive sometime between midday through early Tuesday evening.

The weather service said damaging wind gusts are the most likely hazard, with the potential for winds exceeding 70 mph. While hail is possible, forecasters indicated it is expected to be a secondary concern compared with wind.
The agency also warned that tornadoes cannot be ruled out and advised residents to remain weather aware throughout the day Tuesday.
Residents are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts, have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and be prepared to seek shelter quickly if severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings are issued.
