GLASGOW, Ky. — The Joint City-County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing Sept. 21 on a proposed Barren County zoning and land-use ordinance, a new zoning map and changes to the county’s future land-use map.

The hearing will begin at 7 p.m. at the Luska J. Twyman Municipal Building, 126 E. Public Square in Glasgow. The public will have an opportunity to comment on the proposals.

The commission will consider the proposed text of the Barren County Zoning/Land Use Ordinance under KRS 100.201. The ordinance would establish rules and regulations for zoning and land use in the county’s unincorporated areas.

The ordinance would be the first countywide zoning ordinance in Barren County.

Magistrates voted unanimously July 21 to begin the process of drafting land-use regulations, which officials said could take several months.

The push for zoning has gained attention in recent months as residents have raised concerns about proposed development, including a proposed data center in Cave City and unincorporated Barren County.

The commission will also consider a zoning map showing the proposed designations for properties across the county and an amendment to the future land-use map in the 2024 Barren County Comprehensive Plan.

The hearing is required under Kentucky law before the proposed ordinance and map changes can move forward. View the working document here.
