Search for Glasgow licensing office advances with site tours
The proposed office would help fill a geographic gap between existing regional licensing offices in Bowling Green and Columbia.
GLASGOW, Ky. — State officials will visit Glasgow on Wednesday as the search continues for a site for a proposed regional driver's licensing office in Barren County.
Barren County Judge/Executive Jamie Byrd said representatives from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Finance and Administration Cabinet will tour three privately owned properties under consideration for the facility.
Byrd said she did not know the exact locations of the sites being toured but told state officials about government-owned properties she believes could be viable locations.
Barrenside has submitted an open records request to the state seeking additional information about the proposals.

The state is seeking approximately 5,595 square feet of office space with 60 reserved parking spaces for the regional licensing office, which is expected to serve about 250 customers per day.
The proposed office would help fill a geographic gap between existing regional licensing offices in Bowling Green and Columbia. The Kentucky General Assembly allocated $15.66 million during the 2027 and 2028 fiscal years for new regional licensing offices in Barren, Bullitt and Oldham counties.
The Finance and Administration Cabinet issued an invitation to lease in late May, allowing property owners and developers to submit proposals for either an existing building or new construction. Proposals were due June 17.
Earlier this year, Byrd said the former Barren County Health Department property had been considered as a possible location, but state officials determined the site did not meet the project’s space and parking requirements.
A timeline for selecting a site or opening the new office has not been announced.
