GLASGOW, Ky. — Charles Booker, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, is expected to visit Glasgow Friday as part of a Juneteenth community event hosted by the Boys and Girls Club of Glasgow-Barren County.

Booker previously served in the Kentucky House of Representatives and ran for the U.S. Senate in 2020 before securing the Democratic nomination in the May 19 primary, where he defeated challenger Amy McGrath.

On the Republican side, Congressman Andy Barr won his party’s primary and will face Booker in the November general election for the seat held for more than four decades by Mitch McConnell.

Friday’s event coincides with Juneteenth, a federal holiday marking the end of slavery in the United States and often observed through community gatherings focused on freedom, heritage and reflection.

According to a flyer, the local program will center on those themes.

The event is scheduled from noon to 3:30 p.m. at Twyman Park in Glasgow.
