GLASGOW, Ky. — Tara Bailey, who has led the Barren County Family YMCA for more than eight years, is preparing to leave the organization after accepting an executive director position with another YMCA in the Louisville area.

Bailey has accepted the position of executive director at the Northeast Family YMCA of Greater Louisville. Her anticipated final day with the Barren County Family YMCA is Dec. 3, according to an announcement Thursday.

Bailey has served as CEO/executive director in Barren County since July 2018 and has spent more than 33 years working in the YMCA movement.

The new center expands a senior program that already serves about 250 meals each week and provides fitness classes for about 100 seniors each day.

During her tenure, the organization invested in facility improvements, expanded youth development and wellness programming, strengthened community partnerships and continued efforts to make its services accessible to individuals and families.

“It has been an incredible privilege to serve the Barren County community and work alongside such dedicated staff, volunteers, and board members,” Bailey said. “I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished together. While I look forward to this new opportunity, Barren County and this YMCA will always hold a special place in my heart.”

The YMCA’s Board of Directors will oversee the leadership transition with assistance from the Kentucky/West Virginia YMCA State Alliance.

“The Board of Directors is committed to ensuring continuity of leadership and services while preparing the organization for its next chapter,” Board President Brandon Judd said.

The organization said its existing programs and services will continue throughout the transition.

Founded in 1992, the Barren County Family YMCA is a nonprofit organization focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
