GLASGOW, Ky. — Motorists should expect construction activity and potential lane closures on portions of KY 90 and U.S. 31-E in Barren County this week, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The projects are included in KYTC District 3’s traffic impact report for Aug. 9–14.

On U.S. 31-E, a Highway Safety Improvement Project is expected to begin this week between J. Carter Road and the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Expressway.

Motorists should expect daytime lane closures as crews complete drainage improvements at several locations along the roughly four-mile section.

A new turn lane will also be added at Windy Hills Road, while minor widening will be completed throughout the corridor. The widening will create a four-foot centerline buffer between opposing lanes of traffic.

On KY 90 (Happy Valley Road), a project to improve safety and traffic flow along a roughly nine-mile section of the corridor continues. The project stretches from Sanders Street to U.S. 68 Veterans Outer Loop.

Crews are working on alternating passing lanes and new turn lanes at various points along the corridor. The project also includes drainage improvements, guardrail work, shoulder improvements, passing-lane extensions and vegetation trimming.

The project is expected to be completed later this year.

Elsewhere in District 3, work continues on the I-165 bridges over the Green River in Butler County, where traffic has shifted into a new pattern and the speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph.

In Warren County, construction continues on the U.S. 31-W Bypass widening project in northern Bowling Green, where traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction with a center turn lane. Delays and traffic queues are expected, with the project scheduled for completion in 2027.

Work also continues on KY 884, where the roadway is being widened to three lanes and a roundabout and new bridge over I-165 are planned.

The district includes Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, Todd and Warren counties.
