TEMPLE HILL, Ky. — Some attendees of a public listening session hosted by the Barren River Area Development District on Tuesday evening reported being charged for parking as though they were attending the Barren County Fair.

BRADD, in partnership with its Barren County Steering Committee, hosted the session as part of its effort to update Barren County’s strategic plan, a process that occurs every five years, according to Executive Director Eric Sexton.

The meeting was intentionally scheduled at the fairgrounds in hopes of attracting additional participation from community members already planning to attend the event, Sexton said.

Ahead of the meeting, Sexton said the Barren County Fair Board assured BRADD that those attending only the listening session would not be charged for parking.

However, at least one attendee reported being assessed the fair’s parking fee.

On Thursday, Sexton said efforts were underway to identify and reimburse anyone who was inadvertently charged by fair personnel.

Barren County Emergency Management Deputy Director Marcus Thurman, who attended the meeting, said he has a copy of the sign-in sheet and plans to contact attendees to determine whether anyone was charged for parking and, if so, ensure they receive a refund.
